Experts advise to disassemble the wardrobe at the beginning of each season. What for? Firstly, because any cleaning is a new energy in life. Secondly, you will free up space in the closet by removing from it those things that are morally obsolete. Thirdly, upon the fact of the wardrobe revision, you will discover new combinations of already familiar things, so that your images will become more interesting and diverse. And finally, fourthly, you will make a list of things that you need to buy.
Bright Side outlined 6 steps that will help to effectively disassemble the wardrobe, so that every thing in it works for you.
Step 1. Remove all items from the closet.
First, you should completely empty the cabinet or cabinets, not forgetting about drawers, chests of drawers, upper shelves. All clothes must be carefully dumped onto a bed or floor and wet-cleaned in a closet, wiping each shelf from dust.
Step 2. Sort things according to seasonality
Weigh things that are not appropriate for the current season. Non-seasonal items and shoes can be folded into boxes on the mezzanine, thereby freeing up additional space in the closet. Before you do this, it is advisable to put them in order and wash things that need it.
Please note that many things can be worn at any time of the year - they do not have to weigh far.
Step 3. Sort the items corresponding to the current season into 4 groups
Items corresponding to the current season, and off-season items, as well as shoes, must be sorted into 4 groups:
- leave in the wardrobe,
- to put in order - these are the things that need to be given to dry cleaning, to fit according to the figure and repair in the atelier, remove the spools, wash or remove stains,
- give / sell
- are in doubt.
When sorting clothes and shoes, do not forget about accessories: belts, scarves, scarves, hats and jewelry. It is also important to get rid of obsolete, worn out and irrelevant things, as well as properly organize storage. It will be a shame to understand that this necklace or this scarf would greatly decorate your image if you remembered their existence.
Step 4. Try everything on yourself
Try in front of the mirror absolutely all the things that you plan to leave in the wardrobe, put in order and which are put aside in the group “cause doubts”. Over time, the thing may no longer sit on the figure, requiring a fit, or simply look irrelevant. When inspecting things with spots, holes and spools, be honest with yourself: is it really possible to put these things in order and will you do it?
Hang the things that remain in your wardrobe carefully on separate shoulders. Jeans and knitted knitwear that can stretch out are best folded on shelves.
Wardrobe weeding: cannot be thrown away
A specialist in tidying up the house, at work, and in life generally suggests that change begins. from the wardrobe. What discoveries await us if you dump all the available clothes from it onto the bed? What is the principle to decide: throw away a thing or leave it? And what kind of little list is it worth hanging on the wardrobe door and putting it in your wallet?
The sun has not yet risen, and you are already approaching your wardrobe to choose clothes for the coming day. Where did the trousers that go with this jacket go? And on the shirt - that's annoyance! - spot. How is it that the clothes are sea, but there is nothing to wear? And you, instead of stopping by the wardrobe on the way to the kitchen for just five seconds and choosing your clothes without difficulty, spend ten minutes and a lot of nerves on this seemingly simple task. And all because of the chaos that prevails in the enclosed space of the wardrobe.
There are hundreds of places in your home and office where you can start the fight against junk, but my favorite is the wardrobe in the bedroom. After all, an orderly wardrobe can charge you in a good mood from early morning for the whole day.
The second reason I recommend starting with the closet in the bedroom is its small size. Unless you live in a mansion where an entire wing is reserved for your outfits, then the wardrobe most likely occupies less than two square meters of the area of your housing. (Mine, for example, is a little more than a meter.) Having freed a wardrobe from trash, you will immediately see the results of your efforts, and this will inspire you to continue the struggle to free up living space.
So, what you need to do in order not to cry, looking in your closet:
1. Find the strength within you to do a great, but grateful work for yourself and your life.
2. Buy a lot of SAME HANGERS - then your clothes will hang at the same height, this will immediately create a sense of order.
And before you hang clothes, think about what type of hangers you use.
It's amazing how simple it is to transform your wardrobe when clothes are hanging on competently picked up hangers. When you open the closet door, your eyes will no longer see the "sea" of hangers that hang at different levels and all your clothes will noticeably change.
Plastic hangers can be considered ideal - light and smooth, with a convenient shape for things.
This evil contraption might have seemed harmless to you, and you might have been prone to use it. Still, the pluses on the face - do not take up much space and are mostly free.
Think again! The wire hangers easily distort, changing shape, and your clothes form “drooping” shoulders or even “dropped” completely. Another inconvenience of wire hangers is the tearing of delicate fabrics on clothes. And if you are especially “lucky”, rust can also become an unnecessary problem, which is almost impossible to remove from clothes even in a super dry cleaning.
Let a strong association be created in the head when mentioning wire hangers somewhere - the long-term damage to your clothes may be irreversible, and you may have to say goodbye to these clothes.
Soft hangers are the last century and a tribute to the past. They are old-fashioned and therefore they have no place in the wardrobe of a modern dynamic woman. In addition, they take up too much space, and the fabric greedily attracts dust.
Multi-colored plastic hangers can beat your eyes with their inappropriateness, clumsiness and low quality workmanship, in other words, look cheap, completely not paying tribute to your clothes. But there are their more expensive and high-quality "colleagues", which are made together with silicone linings, thanks to which things do not slip off from them and are fixed exactly as you hang.
Despite the advantages of plastic hangers, I prefer wooden ones for their beauty and noble appearance. Some wooden hangers are incredibly beautiful, and if you like them too - please do not save. There are no miracles with wooden hangers and their “cheap brothers” (of those that are sold for 20 pieces for 100-200 rubles :)) dry up, forming splinteres, often break, resulting in clothing tearing or puffs appear on it.
I also do not recommend buying hangers covered with varnish, clothes easily slide off them.
So, for a woman’s wardrobe, hangers of the simplest form are needed, it is good if they are completely cast, without details, except for hooks or recesses for straps. If the hanger is too “broad-shouldered”, then blisters and blouses may appear on the shoulders.
Most hangers have rungs for hanging trousers on, but you should not do this because they will have a crease.
Pick up hangers with a shoulder width like yours. Even if you have to purchase them in the children's department. It’s worth wholeheartedly accepting the idea that The most important detail on which your wardrobe is built is the choice of the right type of hanger.
3.Lay out ALL clothes and make a selection:
- put in one pile everything that you have not worn for more than 9 months,
- in the second - something that does not fit your figure (if you have been trying to “lose weight before the dress” for a long time, and it has been lying for a year, then face it - this is not your dress),
- in the third - things are not the first freshness and in need of repair.
4.Next, put things along the lines of “like to like” - dresses to dresses, trousers to trousers, skirts to skirts
5. The greatest clever women will sort these things by color. - from the lightest to the darkest - this will help you quickly and accurately make ensembles.
6. Accessories: jewelry, gloves, thongs, scarves, hats, umbrellas, bags! If you have the opportunity, purchase individual drawers or accessory boxes.
If this is not possible, be sure to find it! :) I promise you that the established order will pay off for you, your harmonious internal state and your life as a whole very quickly.
There are various ways to store scarves. Most of them can be stacked on shelves or put in special boxes.
Scarves with a silky texture can be folded into a square or hung on special designs. Photo: storage of scarves 1, 2, 3
Other scarves, including cashmere or cotton neckerchiefs, can be twisted and grouped, and also formed into a “ball” that can be put into a beautiful box that matches your wardrobe style or simply hidden in an accessory table drawer.
You can roll the belts or only most of them into a “reel”. I recommend holding the belt buckle on the outside and be sure to put an elastic band around the belt to prevent collapse of the “reel”.
Sort your belts by type and color! Drawers, boxes and special trays - all this is a good solution for storing your belts (see as in the picture on the right)
Wide belts will vary depending on their texture, putting them flat is the best option.
Belts of the “corset” style are always very rigidly structured and therefore it is better that they stand vertically, and for a compact solution, they can be folded into a roll with belts inside.
Another great way to store belts is to hang them (see as in the picture on the left).
Hooks can be made large and beautiful so that the belt can be easily seen at a glance. If your wardrobe is deep enough, you can always hang the straps on the inner cabinet door, making sure they don’t hurt your clothes.
Jewelry and bijouterie
Jewelry storage is a matter of your imagination only!
I like when beads and necklaces hang on hooks on a small section of the wall or cabinet door, in this form they do not get tangled.
In addition, 2 or 3 necklaces hung together will help you save space and will look very stylish and eclectic! If you do not want the beads and necklaces to be hung, you can place them in special drawers of the table for accessories, using a velvet fabric, which will prevent them from slipping and confusion.
Rings, earrings and brooches best stored in drawers with divisions for jewelry and jewelry.
All kinds of bracelets can be hung on special racks, similar to a holder for kitchen towels, which are made of different materials and in different styles.
In addition, a great variety of beautiful small cabinets, mannequins, and racks specially designed for storing jewelry are sold to shops for girls to our joy!
7.Footwear - This is a separate very important and, as a rule, “sore point”.
If you have the opportunity, install additional shelves for shoes in the cabinet, do not store shoes in different-sized boxes - this clutters the space and creates a messy look.
If there is no opportunity, find this opportunity soon!
In factory boxes, it is inconvenient to store shoes also because it is often difficult to remember which shoes are and in which boxes are stored.
By the way, in my work, I use the model of boxes with a retractable part specially developed for my company Royal Order, such boxes are very convenient and versatile, they can be put on top of one another and shoes can be easily removed.
8. Special attention, as it seems to me, deserves advice underwear storage !
It often happens that when going to work or on a romantic date with a beloved man, when time is of the essence, we cannot find either the top of the linen set or the bottom of the sexually lace set.
But if you use beautiful and practical drawers to store your laundry - this problem will be easily solved!
Bras it is best to store by putting one cup in another to create a “dome”, and then tuck the straps into its back. Make sure that all cups are flush with each other. This method of storing bras is very economical in space and convenient for storing sets together. It is best to fold any panties matching a bra over a cup.
There is nothing worse than a box full of panties that are in chaos and disorder. A split box is a great way to prevent this disaster. In addition, you can arrange them in color in cute boxes.
Surely, you have wonderful underwear with lace or a beautiful decorative finish (for a special occasion)! Since we do not wear it every day, it is advisable to store it separately so that there is no confusion, and if necessary everything was found instantly!
9. Do not forget about special anti-grinding agents - All this will help to keep your things in perfect shape. Also try to wipe the dust in your closet more often, it’s in it all sorts of parasites like to live.
10. Do not hang delicate wool or cashmere products on your shoulders., such clothing should be stored folded.
11. Vacuum bags are a great option for storing bulk items.such as winter clothes. And most importantly, remember - it is forbidden to store fur in this way!
Of course, these are not all steps, but if you do at least them, you will be proud of yourself and order in your wardrobe!
Separately, I will talk about "Clothing addiction" - the inability to part with clothes.
And, as a rule, there are some of the most common "reasons" for the occurrence of this ailment, find out yourself in one of the points:
1. I might want to wear this thing again (Or maybe I don’t want to!). As a result - a dead load in the closet.
2. I'm going to lose weight (and fit into your favorite Superfine jeans that you wore 5 years ago).
3. It is possible again soon will become fashionable again. Although the return of fashion for things can take decades. And when this happens, it will definitely be updated in a slightly different form.
4. It was very expensive. Of course, it’s hard to part with something for which you paid a lot of money. My advice in this case is to give it to relatives or friends to whom it really suits. So you get rid of unnecessary things and give joy to loved ones.
5. The thing is "for a special occasion." “What if I go camping, in the casino, at the children's party in the costume of the Bunny.” Do not buy for future use, buy on occasion.
6. I want to pass this thing to my daughter. Probably, if this is not a haute couture, your daughter will most likely not want her.
7. I feel guilty. If your poor aunt knitted a sweater with her own hands for three years, but this is not your color and style at all, and you have never worn it, then stop tormenting and give the sweater to the nearest charitable organization.
Like this! Be alright!
I wish you to always be compelling, exciting the male eye, amazing women!
First you need to find out what clothes and how much you have. If at home you store clothes in different places (for example, in the hallway there are coats and hats, and in the basement there are carnival costumes that you wear extremely rarely), take them all to the bedroom. Your first goal is to wash and clean absolutely all the things you have and collect them in one place. Perhaps this will open your eyes to your stocks.
Remove plastic wrap from clothing that stores and dry cleaners pack in to protect them from contamination during transport. Over time, it begins to decompose, damaging the tissue and leaving spots on it. Trim all colored identification tags affixed to dry cleaned clothing since paper ink may print onto the fabric. For long-term storage of clothes (for special occasions and suits), cotton bags or from durable plastic materials are better suited.
When you wash, clean and collect all your things in one place, answer the following questions:
- What is your attitude to your clothes?
- What types of clothing (work, training, elegant) do you have?
- Are there any patterns in your wardrobe (repeating colors, styles, sizes, seasonal accessories)?
I confess, the first question is too personal. But he still needs to be answered. Если при взгляде на гору одежды вас пугает ее непомерное количество, это верный признак того, что от многих вещей пришла пора избавиться.
The answer to the second question will give you a hint about where to start clearing the trash. If you rarely go to celebrations or official events, but you have three tuxedos or fifteen ball gowns, it becomes clear how to free up space in the closet. The same approach applies to training clothes: if you don’t wear it, get rid of it decisively.
The answer to the third question will determine the criteria for dividing things into two categories - those that remain in your wardrobe, and those that will have to say goodbye.
You probably have certain clothing preferences. Perhaps you will notice some patterns in the selection of colors (for example, I categorically do not accept bright colors), or fabrics (almost all of my things are made of natural fibers), or cut (tight clothes I prefer baggy).
In parallel (while all clothes are unloaded on the bed), evaluate the state of your wardrobe (but first free it completely) What is it like? Does the cabinet require repair? Does it satisfy your storage requirements? If it needs to be repainted, repaired, vacuumed, equipped with additional hooks or new slats or to carry out any other work, do it now while it is empty. Ultimately, its size determines the number of things that you may have, keep this in mind while continuing to sort your wardrobe.
Your clothing style
Clothing says a lot about us, whether we want it or not. If I put on a T-shirt and jeans, it means that in the next hour I will definitely not get married and will not go to the office where the business dress code is accepted.
I would like you to think about the individual style and analyze the trends that you noticed in your wardrobe. Do you have a certain style of dressing? What, in your opinion, clothes look more advantageous for you and work on your image? The following recommendations will help you decide the fate of things and select those that deserve a place in your wardrobe.
- This thing should represent your current style and the image in which you want to appear in front of others.
- The thing should sit well on you, be in shape.
- It should be combined with at least two other items in your wardrobe.
- It can be worn with the shoes you have (the same rule applies for shoes: it must be in harmony with the clothes you have).
- The item must be in good condition and not require repair.
- Availability of space for storage.
- You should like the feeling of wearing this thing (shoes should not be the cause of blisters).
- Over the next year, at least one opportunity should be presented to put on this thing.
If you want, add a few more items to this list based on your own preferences. For example, I had "Nothing Orange." If you live in a tropical climate, the rule “No sweaters” looks quite logical. Complementing the list, be guided by common sense.
Helpful advice. I think it’s worth printing the rules you’ve drawn up and fixing the sheet on the inside of the wardrobe door or in another easily accessible place. The main thing is that you can always check with them. And after putting things in order in the wardrobe, I recommend that you print the rules on a small format sheet, put it in your wallet and check it every time you shop.
Disassemble the wardrobe
First, let's review each thing according to the principle: like it or not, and at the same time ask ourselves a simple question: “Would I like to be this blouse or skirt?” If the answer is yes, then leave it. If not, it’s worth considering whether this is really your thing? How often have you worn it, how much do you like, and how many times will you still wear it? What memories does it relate to, positive or not? Maybe you should give this thing away, donate it or throw it away without regret.
Try leaving only your favorite things in your wardrobe. Of course, there will be few of them. Pay attention, rather, what you have selected in the category of your favorite things, you often wear and most of these things go together.
Whether we like it or not, our clothes reflect our inner world. Changing internally, we make these changes in appearance. Conversely, external changes entail changes within. When we wear our favorite things that bring us joy, a bad mood goes somewhere, troubles disappear.
When the soul is uncomfortable, a person intuitively chooses colors that do not decorate him. He is comfortable walking in gloomy and nondescript colors. Clothing often shows us the state of mind. Observe yourself, and what clothes do you wear? Which is comfortable? What colors do you prefer now and before? How were different periods of your life reflected in your clothes?
So, it's time to decide which things to leave and which to delete from the wardrobe (and your life) forever. Begin to sort things stacked in a heap on the bed from above, distributing them into three groups: those that you want to leave, candidates for removal and requiring repair. Sort by following a list of rules and matching things to your style.
Do you have three whole blue linen shirts? And do you need all three? If there is enough space for only one in the wardrobe, leave the one that matches your clothes better than others (rules 3 and 4) and in which you most often hear compliments from friends (rules 2 and 7).
Found four black turtleneck sweaters in the heap on the bed? And all four still retain their color or have they already faded somewhat from frequent washing? Get rid of those that you no longer call black (rule 5), as well as those that do not correspond to your style (rule 1).
Many prudent organization experts teach that the wardrobe needs to be cleaned of all the things that you have never worn in the past six months. A good rule, but only if you live in an area where almost always the same season. However, most of us live in changing seasons, so, say, a sweater or bathing suit may well lie in the closet idle for six months or more.
That is why, instead of the “six-month” rule, I suggest using the “seasonal” one. It sounds like this: if the season is over, and during this time you never once put on the appropriate thing, get rid of it.
In the concept of "season" I mean not a calendar, but a broader meaning. For example, I have a beautifully tailored black classic costume that I wear exclusively for funerals. Fortunately, it may take several years before I need it again. I have neither the time nor the money to buy a new black suit every time in the event of such a sad event, which is why I consider these clothes to be seasonal - that is, intended for the funeral season.
The next step is to sort the leave heap. First, see if you have enough space in your wardrobe and chest of drawers for all your laid-off clothes. If not, you will have to more carefully filter things from the mentioned category. If you still need to reduce the number of clothes, the additional criteria for its screening will be the quality of the item (well-sewn from durable fabric will last longer) or ease of washing (which will reduce the need for dry cleaning services).
About how to load things back into the wardrobe - next time.
Clothes on a coat hanger, takes up more space than folded on a shelf. But she does not crumple, unlike clothes folded on shelves in the closet. And here you have to make a choice yourself. Therefore, it is recommended once a year to revise clothes and get rid of the one we don’t wear. You can also save space in the closet if you put clothes in drawers according to the method of Con Marie. I will not dwell on this technique in more detail, since there is a lot of information on the Internet. I can only say that we put all things in rectangles along the height of the box, we turn smaller ones into a tube. Do not think that your things are remembered more than usual. Things folded in this way wrinkle in the same way as with a traditional folding, at the same time they can be quickly found and, pulling out one thing, we maintain the general order. If we want the thing not to look mint, we hang it on our shoulders.
We leave only the necessary
So how easy is it to create an image for today? To begin, let's agree to leave only those things in the closet that you actually wear. If, after conducting an audit in the closet, it’s a pity to throw away some things or give them away, just put them in a separate bag. That is, in the wardrobe, the clothes that you are now putting on should not be mixed with the clothes “what if I ever wear it” or “when I lose weight”.
Our life can be divided into time for work, leisure, sports, walking with children, parties, etc. Each person will have their own set of spheres depending on their lifestyle.
So the clothes in the wardrobe can be hung on their shoulders and laid out according to this principle: each area of life, its own place: work, leisure, sports, etc. For example, a skirt for work and a separate skirt for walking with children. Of course, we will not go to extremes and some things will be universal.
Next, we sort things into “tops” and “bottoms”. Tops include blouses, tops, T-shirts, jackets, etc. This also includes dresses. The bottoms include skirts, trousers, shorts, breeches, etc. On 1-2 bottoms there are 3-4 tops.
If the wardrobe is composed correctly, then the tops and bottoms are combined among themselves and creating an image for the day is quite easy.
